Happy Birthday Sinead

She is one of my favourite singers, a fiery, feisty Irish wonder. In Chinese astrology Sinead O’Connor is a Fire Horse, some people apparently find female fire horses scary. I’m one too. This is Sinead at her powerful best.

The funniest, funnest girl I ever met

Eight years ago today I gave birth to a nutty little monkey. My youngest daughter is going to be a stunt woman, a truck and a punk when she grows up. She shouts and makes me laugh and I couldn’t imagine a peaceful life without her. Happy birthday Miss Zen

On and on across the universe

“If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there’d be peace.”

Happy birthday to me

Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp still haven’t called me for my birthday, they must be sleeping

I love Lucy

One of my favourite female clowns, Lucille Ball, was born today. She had the most marvellous face and superb timing. Lucy was pregnant on television at a time when this was frowned upon by male executives. She was also the first woman in television to be head of a production company: Desilu, the company that she and Desi Arnaz formed. Thank you Lucy for blazing a trail for women in comedy and sharing your gift.

Fever

My darling mother turns 85 today. My mum taught me how to sing. I grew up listening to her sing along to Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney. Happy birthday Barbie

Ham with extra cheesiness

Happy Birthday Barry, wish I could find a copy of this shirt in an op shop

June 17 birthdays

James Brown and Barry Manilow were born today. In this footage, apart from the ultra funky Mr Brown you get a magnificent horn section, showbiz outfits and hair that defies gravity. There is so much to love

My Big Baby

My biggest baby turns 15 today. Now we are the same age. Well, the same mental age. Those of you who know me well will say she is more mature than me. And the shrink I go to said that there’s a touch of  Edina and Saffy about our relationship. My big baby changed my life, I love her more than words. I would run in front of a speeding train for her. I can’t live without her. I used to sing her this song when she was little (minus the making love reference of course).

Happy Birthday Luscious girl. Thank God you are my daughter. I won the mothering lottery when I had you.
